7 Things to do if you Want a Hamster

If you want a hamster, you're in luck! There are 10 things you need to do if you want a hamster.  From parent persuasion to supplies you need, this post has it all. Before you read on, please take a moment to pin this to your Hamster Board.

  1. Persuade your parents. Most parents want to see that you're responsible before you get a pet, whether it's a hamster or a dog, a corn snake or a cat. Show responsibility by helping around the house, and if you have little siblings, take care of them for a bit and give your mom a well-deserved break! (Plus, a little good behavior never hurts. 😉)
  2. Research what kind of hamster you want. You need, need, need to know the differences of hamster types and pick from a Dwarf hamster or a standard-sized hamster! Take the time and effort to research, It'll be worth it when you have a new buddy!
  3. Once your parents agree, it's time to get the gear! Here's a PowerPoint that will show you everything you need for your new hamster!
  4. Before getting a hamster, what gender would you want your hamster to be, and how many do you plan on having? If you want a boy and a girl, it's a good idea to get them spayed and neutered. Plus, if you plan on getting 2 boys, they may fight if they are not both neutered!
  5. Also, remember to have a variety of foods for them. It's not a good idea to give them the same food over and over, but randomly bringing in a new one can be a shock. Check out my post on what foods are safe for them!
  6. Now, pick your hamster. Adopting a hamster is an excellent thing to do, and there isn't much of a difference in cost.
  7. And last, remember to wash your hands before and after playing with a hamster! Hamsters can't see well, so they use their nose to pick up what's going on in their environment.
I hope you succeed in getting your hamster and give it the best life possible! The PowerPoint is super short and will show you what you should get and what is potentially dangerous.
