Hey, VetKidz! This week on Extreme Pets, we will talk about Tarantulas! These huge, hairy spiders are totally safe to be around, except for a painful bite, but they rarely do bite. Before we learn more about Tarantulas, please take a moment to pin this to your Extreme Pets board.
Did you know?
- Tarantulas pounce on their prey, or the living things that they eat.
- One special tarantula called the Goliath Bird-eating Tarantula eats things like small birds, snakes, frogs and bats!
- Tarantulas won't kill people, and they rarely bite. They have less venom than a bee, but a dog is more susceptible to the venom, so if a dog got bit by a tarantula, it would most likely be fatal, resulting in death.
- Cats are also very susceptible to tarantula venom.
- Female tarantulas live longer than male tarantulas!
- The biggest tarantula is the size of a dinner plate.
- Tarantulas are eaten in some countries, and supposedly have a nutty taste, but I think it would just be better to keep it as a pet, or let it live in the wild.
- Tarantulas throw needles. You already know porcupines have quills. Well, did you know that tarantulas use their hind legs to throw needles at their attackers.
- Falling can kill a tarantula! Even if you just dropped it from a short height, it can damage their exoskeleton.
- Tarantulas do not spin webs, but they still use silk!
