10 facts about tigers

Tigers are beautiful, majestic creatures. Sometimes, you might even forget that these big cats can kill you. In fact, just one punch from a tiger can actually kill you. Today, we will learn 10 interesting facts about tigers. Before we begin, please take a moment to pin this to your Pinterest.

    1. Tiger cubs like to play tag! They also like to wrestle.
    2. Tiger cubs are born blind. Like most mammals (except people), tiger cubs are born blind.
    3. Only half the tiger cubs born actually do survive. About half the tiger cubs either die from hunger, freeze to death, or are eaten by male tigers, so the tigress is available to mate. That's really crazy, but sadly, it's true.
    4. Tiger cubs love to swim. Even adult tigers love to swim, unlike pet cats. They are amazing swimmers.
    5. Tigers can mate with other big cats. It's weird but true. Dogs can't mate with cats, but big cats can mate with other big cats. One strange hybrid is a tigon!
    6. Tiger pee smells like buttered popcorn. It's actually a warning sign to any intruders in their territory, so keep away!
    7. Tigers can mimic the calls of other animals! It's a key hunting strategy to lure dinner in! For example, they can make the sound of a sambhar and ta-da! Dinner is served. (a sambhar is a deer.)
    8. Tiger stripes are not just on their fur; they are on their skin like fingerprints. No tiger's stripes are just like any other tiger's! Just like humans and their fingerprints.
    9.  A tiger's tail helps it balance when making tight turns. They are 3 feet long.
    10. Tigers are a keystone species. You need tigers to survive. They eat other animals, so they keep the ecosystem balanced. They keep the air, water, and food clean, and this has financial benefits!
